Hidden Treasure: 13” Snare Magic
This may be the best value going: Mag Throw-Off, True Pitch tension rods, 10-ply maple, and a sleek black matte finish. I’ve switched entirely over to 13” snares for the combination of fit between my legs at the kit, phenomenal sound and tuning range, excellent cross-stick sound, and lighter weight. 5.5” depth also provides a winning balance between depth of tone and snare response. This thing sounds fantastic out of the box. Swap out the top hoop for an S-Hoop, batter head for either an Evans 13” Hydraulic Snare Batter Head in red (I know: I never thought I would like a hydraulic head on a snare drum but I’m loving it) for a more controlled sound or an Aquarian Jack DeJohnette snare head in black for a more open snare sound, an Evans 13” Hazy 300 reso head, and high quality snare wires (German steel 16 strand wires; Evan Benny Greb only uses 18 wires) and you have a monster snare drum coming in at under $300 with all mods. Plus, Erik and the CymbalFusion crew offer lightening fast service and preferred pricing. Get it, be done searching, and get back to hittin’ it.
