First introduced in 1987, the original Signature Series 14"x08" Cast Bronze Snare Drum HLD 590 was born from SONOR’s groundbreaking research into drum design. Studies revealed that the weight and stiffness of a drum shell greatly influence the vibration of the drumheads, allowing for fuller resonance and projection. Heavier, stiffer shells enhance the freedom of head vibration, maximizing the drum's sound potential.

Cast bronze, with its superior weight and rigidity, surpassed all other materials SONOR had used at the time. This enabled the HLD 590 to deliver unparalleled purity, resonance, and projection, cementing its reputation as SONOR’s most luxurious snare drum. These sound focus rings were an integral part of the casting process, with the central portion of the shell milled to 3mm. SONOR continues to use this meticulous construction technique for all its cast bronze snare drums.
